Why Use a QR Code for Telegram?
Telegram's invite links and public usernames can be long and awkward to share in person. A QR code on a business card, a printed poster, an event standee, or in an email signature allows anyone with Telegram installed to scan and join your group, channel, or start a chat with you immediately - no searching, no typing @usernames.
With over 900 million monthly active users in 2024, Telegram is the primary communication channel for a range of communities: crypto and finance discussion groups, news channel subscribers, customer support channels, private professional communities, fan communities, and business announcement channels in many markets (particularly Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and MENA).
Three Telegram QR Code Types
1. Personal Profile (Start a Chat With Me)
Link format: https://t.me/yourusername
When scanned, opens Telegram and loads your profile, with a "Message" button. The person can start a private conversation with you directly without saving your phone number. Works identically to WhatsApp's wa.me link but for Telegram's ecosystem. Good for: professional contacts, event networking, business cards where clients initiate contact via Telegram.
2. Public Group or Channel
If your group or channel has a public username, its link is: https://t.me/yourgroupname
When scanned, loads the group's Telegram preview page with a "Join Group" or "View Channel" button. Good for: public community groups, news channels, support channels, broadcast announcement channels.
3. Private Group Invite Link
Private Telegram groups and channels use invite links that look like: https://t.me/joinchat/XXXXXXXXXXX or https://t.me/+XXXXXXXXXXX (newer format).
When scanned, shows the group preview with "Join Group" button. Only people with the link can join - the group does not appear in Telegram search. Good for: paid communities, private mastermind groups, internal team channels, subscriber-only community access.
Two Ways to Get Your Telegram QR Code
Option A: Telegram's Built-In QR Code
Telegram generates QR codes internally for personal profiles on mobile:
- Android: Telegram Settings → QR icon next to your username → your profile QR code
- iPhone: Telegram Settings → QR Code option → your profile QR code
The built-in code is a standard PNG image. It works for sharing digitally (screenshot it, send it). For print, the resolution is limited - not ideal for larger printed applications.
Option B: Custom QR Code Using Your Telegram Link (Recommended for Print)
- Get your Telegram link:
https://t.me/yourusernameor the group/channel invite URL. - Open our Free QR Code Generator.
- Select URL. Paste your Telegram link.
- Generate. Download as SVG for print, PNG for digital.
The SVG file scales to any print size - from a 2cm code on a business card to a 20cm code on an exhibition stand display - without quality loss. This is the correct approach for any printed Telegram promotion material.
