Why LinkedIn QR Codes Matter at Networking Events
The classic networking exchange - "Can I take your business card?" - has a modern successor: "Can I scan your LinkedIn QR code?" Scanning takes 3 seconds; connecting on LinkedIn is instant; the connection request is already sent before the conversation ends. No card to lose, no name to misremember when searching later.
A QR code on your conference badge, business card, or the back of your phone case converts every handshake into a LinkedIn connection without friction.
Method 1: LinkedIn's Built-In QR Code (Mobile App)
LinkedIn generates a QR code for your personal profile directly in the app:
- Open the LinkedIn app on your phone.
- Tap the Search bar at the top of the screen.
- Look for the small QR code icon on the right side of the search bar - tap it.
- Your profile QR code is displayed. You can show it to someone to scan, or tap Save to Camera Roll to download it as an image.
This built-in code is useful for in-app sharing and digital display. It is a PNG image at a fixed screen resolution. Limitation: printing this code on a business card at 3cm × 3cm often produces a slightly blurry result because the PNG resolution is optimised for screen, not for printing. For high-quality printed materials, use Method 2.
Method 2: Custom SVG LinkedIn QR Code for Print (Recommended)
- Get your LinkedIn profile URL. Open LinkedIn in a browser. Click your profile picture → View Profile. Copy the URL from the browser address bar. It looks like:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/yourname/ - For a company page: navigate to your company page and copy its URL:
https://www.linkedin.com/company/yourcompany/ - Open our Free QR Code Generator. Select URL. Paste your LinkedIn profile or company URL.
- Generate and download as SVG. SVG scales perfectly to any print size without quality loss.
At 2.5cm × 2.5cm on a business card, an SVG-sourced QR code prints with crisp, sharp edges that scan reliably. A PNG from LinkedIn's app at the same size may appear soft or pixelated under close inspection.
Where to Use Your LinkedIn QR Code
- Business card (back face): QR code alongside "Connect with me on LinkedIn" in small text. Replaces the URL which no one types on a phone.
- CV / resume: Next to your Professional Profiles section - recruiters and hiring managers can scan to view your full profile without typing your URL.
- Conference name badge: Printed with your name - the QR code is scanned during networking without needing to exchange physical cards.
- Email signature: As a small image linked to your LinkedIn URL - recipients on mobile can scan the signature or tap the image.
- Virtual presentation slide: "Connect after this session" slide with your QR code displayed - simultaneous connections from all attendees who want to follow up.
